Seven friends living in the same neighborhood with different aims form a gang to rob gas stations in pursuit of their shared desire for money. The film serves as a critique of the socio-economic situation of Türkiye and the approach to the "American Dream" in the period of time before May 27th.

After her mother dies, Sevda is left orphaned and is adopted by Şaziment Hanım. She grows up with Şaziment Hanım's son Bülent and niece Zuhal. During this time, Sevda and Bülent fall in love with each other. However, unaware of this situation, Şaziment Hanım wants to marry Zuhal and Bülent.

When Handan was a child, her father adopted an orphan named Cevat. However, her father died in an accident shortly thereafter. Orhan, Handan's older brother, who could never accept Cevat, saw this situation as an opportunity. He put Cevat to work as a laborer on his farm. He also sent Handan abroad to study for a while. During the dark days of the war of independence, Kemal (Ali Ekdal) sneaks his way to deliver the secret letter to Ankara.

The film tells the story of Serap and Ahmet, who fall in love during the War of Independence. Emine commits suicide after giving birth to a baby girl. Osman Müfit, the village teacher, takes the girl under his wing and names her Serap. When Serap graduates from the Girls' Teacher Training College in Istanbul, Anatolia is under occupation. The situation in Balıkesir is no different. On one side is Rıza Bey, the village chief who collaborates with Anzavur, and on the other is Osman Müfit, the leader of the National Forces. Rıza Bey's son Ahmet also joins the national forces and fights against his father. Serap returns to Balıkesir from Istanbul. Serap and Ahmet meet in the midst of the war. These difficult days for the country will bring them even closer together.
