Peruvazhiyambalam is a 1979 Malayalam film directed by P. Padmarajan based on his novel of the same name. It marked Padmarajan's directorial debut and the acting debut for Ashokan who plays the central character Raman. The film is an incisive examination of how violence or totalitarianism works in our society; it dealt with disturbing questions relating to masculinity and how people adore and dread it at the same time. The Hindu described this film as one of the finest films in Malayalam. It won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam. The film was included in IBN Live's list of 100 greatest Indian films of all time.

Thinkalaazhcha Nalla Divasam is a 1985 Malayalam drama film written and directed by P. Padmarajan. It stars Mammootty, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Karamana Janardanan Nair and Srividya in pivotal roles. Thinkalazhcha Nalla Divasam movie tells two sons and their families get together to celebrate their mother's 60th birthday in their ancestral house. But problems develop when the younger son (Mammootty) reveals his plan to sell the house for Money and put the mother in an old age home.

The story takes place in a small village surrounded by hills and valleys. Young Pappu, a teenager, awaiting school results to go to college, has plenty of time on hand. It storms and thunders while Pappu makes love to Rathi. Only then do the storms—the one tormenting him inside his mind and the other raging thunderously on the outside, subside. Viswanathan comes to the city for a job interview, only to find himself entangled in a crisis due to his resemblance with a gangster. The film starts out as a campus story involving four boys, Thomas, Ravi, Alosius and Swami. There is the usual pranks that the boys of the age do, although the movie doesn't just revolve around these.The second half of the movie takes us to scenic locales of Munnar. The second half also introduces the major female character, Molu. The movie centres around the problems faced by them in a hotel in Munnar.

Nakshathrangale Kaaval is a 1978 Indian Malayalam film adaptation of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award-winning novel of the same name by P. Padmarajan. It is directed by K. S. Sethumadhavan and produced by Hari Pothan and stars Jayabharathi, MG Soman, Sukumari and Adoor Bhasi in the lead roles.

The film is an esoteric fantasy about a girl and her passion for a celestial lover, who keeps appearing from a wooden statue that she found on a beach but is invisible to others.

Rappadikalude Gatha is woven around Gatha, a young girl who finds happiness in drugs and music. She marries a doctor of humble indisposition. Their marriage runs into difficulty but, after several traumatic experiences, the couple are reconciled. The film is a sharp indictment of society, its awry priorities, on the frustrations of the youth, their disappointments, and how youngsters get hooked to drugs.

Jayakrishnan falls in love with two girls, Radha (a villager) and Clara (a sex-worker), and fights his confusion about whom he should marry and spend his life with.

Oridathoru Phayalvaan is a 1981 Malayalam film written, edited and directed by P. Padmarajan. The film is a folk parable about the success and failure in the life of a wrestler. Having an unusual and different plot, the movie was critically acclaimed. It stars Rashid, Nedumudi Venu and Jayanthi in the lead roles. It won the award for Best Script at the Kuala Lumpur International Film Festival, and a Gold Medal at the Asian Film Festival.
