Tiruchengodu Ramalingam "T. R." Sundaram (16 July 1907 – 30 August 1963) was an Indian film actor, director, and producer. He is the founder of the Salem-based movie production company The Modern Theatres Ltd. Mr.T.R.Sundaram was born in 1907 in Coimbatore to a wealthy textile merchant and had his studies in India and in Leeds, England, where he graduated in textile engineering. On returning to India, Mr.T.R.Sundaram managed his family business. After the production of the first Tamil talkie Kalidas in 1931, the movie industry emerged as a profitable means of investment. Sundaram set up Angel Pictures in Salem and produced movies along with S. S. Velayutham. Mr.T.R.Sundaram split with Velayutham after a few years and set up his own production company The Modern Theatres Ltd. The first film produced under the banner of Modern Theatres was Sathi Ahalya in 1937. The next year in 1938, Mr.T.R.Sundaram produced the Malayalam talkie Balan. He was instrumental in giving MGR his first major solo box office hit in Manthirikumari. It catapulted MGR to greater name and fame.They followed it up with Sarvadhikari which became highest grosser in 1951.

The Jungle
Thirumbi Paar, directed by T. R. Sundaram, was an interesting film in which Sivaji Ganesan played a role with negative shades. The character dabbles in avenues such as journalism and politics. T. P. Muthulakshmi plays the dumb wife of an elderly husband (K. A. Thangavelu) who goes to work early. Sivaji Ganesan, a seducer, who sneaks into the dumb woman’s house, alters the clock to send the husband away well before the usual time. This sequence was mercilessly scissored by the censors and what was left lost its touch of satire and innuendo!

Shankar and his assistant Raju(Thengai Srinivasan is deputed to the Nilgiris to investigate a case of mysterious murder. C. I. D. Ashokan(Pakkirisamy) also stay for the town, who pose at research of herbal, his close relation of lover's club dancer Reeta(Jayakumari). Ashokan finds all truth and he goes to Nagamalai estate, where he gives lift to a young girl who explodes her belt.Ashokan gives diary and locker key to Vithya(Sakunthala) who saves his life and admits him in the hospital. But unfortuneately ashokan was killed by the mysterious gang in hospital. Vithya gives the things to Shankar and both fall in love. Raju falls in love with actress Rama(Kumari Radha), who also stays in the same hotel. Shankar meet Reeta and asks her to help him. She gives information to his assistant Raju and later on she is killed by the same mysterious gang.

Manickam is wanted by the army of East India Company. He is absconding and takes refuge in the house of Maheswari. Manickam and Maheswari fall in love with each other. Manickam's father Dharmalingam demands a large dowry from Maheswari's mother, Kanthimathi, who somehow manages to give the amount. However, Dharmalingam comes to know that Kanthimathi is ridiculed by the villagers as a woman of loose moral character. So, he sends back Maheswari to her home. Manickam is helpless because he depends on his father for everything.
