Depicts "Statarna", the Swedish agricultural proletarians, set during the early 1900s. An institutionalized brutality of oppression and poverty surrounded by a beautiful and silent countryside.

In 1944, Cederqvist comes to a small cloth factory to see how the all-women employees can work more efficiently. At the beginning he is greeted with suspicion and his efforts at courting the young ladies are futile. The executioner became executioner against his will and the whore, only 17 years old, was forced into the brothel.
