Five graduating high school seniors with no prospects decide to make an outrageous comedy movie in the hopes of getting famous and escaping their depressing town.

Based on the real-life story of British sailor Pete Goss; in the midst of the 1996-1997 race and battling hurricane-force winds and waves reaching six stories high, Goss decided to turn back into the storm to save fellow competitor Raphaël Dinelli, whose boat had capsized thousands of miles from land.

Fayette and Roy are an elderly couple in a dysfunctional relationship. Roy is dependent on Fayette for the basics in life, such as cooking and cleaning, yet he is always yelling at her that she can't even do these things right. To add what she considers a little sunshine in her life, Fayette buys a canary, which she initially hides from Roy. The yellow bird will eventually fundamentally change the nature of Fayette and Roy's relationship.
