Walter MacIntosh and Abe Salisbury are filmmakers in the process of viewing their swashbuckling romance epic, 'The Loves of LaVorees', starring silent screen idol, Romaine Salisbury, hotly contested within Hollywood and part of an expensive silent film production, only for Bovine Productions to switch to sound production and reveal to them for the first time, Romaine's real all-talking, all-singing voice.
Bill and Oscar are musicians but they can't make enough to pay their room-and-board, and they are both in love with the landlady's daughter. However, she is in love with Horace, a wrestler, and Bill gets a world's championship match with him in hopes of securing the needed-boardinghouse bill, and the hand of the daughter of the house.
Alice, an employee who is chosen by her coworkers to represent them at a banquet honoring her boss's new partner. Tasked with giving a speech and presenting a "loving cup" as a token of esteem, Alice becomes overwhelmed by her high-society surroundings. Her nervousness leads to a series of comedic blunders and a "terrible fall" during her act, though the situation is eventually salvaged.

All the qualified men line up to be chosen, as an heiress advertises that she will marry the man with the most interesting mustache, that marriage which comes with a mansion. John Syrup Soother wins the marriage to who he believes is the heiress, Olive Palmer, a tank of a woman who has lost her beauty with age. But he learns that he his betrothed is not the heiress, Diana Palmer, but her mother. Howson Lotts, a shyster and one of Diana's other suitors, sells John a beach-front house for his new life, that house which is not all that it seems on the surface. In the meantime, others still will do anything to be Diana's betrothed, that choice in which John now has a different but still vested interest.
Barney Google is returning to Kokomo with his menage: race horse Spark Plug, trainer-jockey Sunshine, and ostrich Rudy. The people turn out to greet him -- the race horse, that is, and Sunshine. Feelings about Google are less kind, and soon the four of them are on a train headed elsewhere, causing havoc to passengers and crew.

Chester Winfield tries to make it as a lumberjack, but he's foiled by his lack of strength and the jealous foreman, Big Bill Reardon, after Chester catches the eye of Hazel Wood, Big Bill's favorite and the camp's waitress. Bill tries to eliminate Chester, so he and Hazel head down the mountain for other work. She waits tables and gets him a job as a dishwasher. He spills kerosene in the soup and then must serve it to an angry customer. Hazel tells a couple of tall tales about Chester, and soon all the customers, the owner, and the cook, think he's a desperado. They make him the saloon bouncer. Some trick shooting seals his reputation. Then Big Bill arrives for a showdown.
Taking Alice and Ruth to a show with Alice 's father & his boss's money they see that its leading man is an old friend of the girls. He invites them out after the show, but not having money Eddie has to pay the bill. Eddie calls Joe to tell him what is going on. The girls escape to the actor's room and go out the window but Joe and Eddie finally catch them.
A pretty harem girl is rescued by a U. S. Navy officer. Whilst fleeing from the guards the girl takes refuge in the rooms of the notorious Rodney St. Clair, an erring Knight, who is proud of his long list of feminine conquests. But the Navy officer again comes to her rescue, and Sir Rodney is left to marry the harem's fattest woman after she puts a love potion in his drink.
“Handy girl” at a local bakery Molly is sent to deliver a cake to a wealthy customer's home. Upon arriving, Molly learns that the household is hosting a party but has exactly thirteen guests—an unlucky number. To break the bad luck, Jack, the son of the house insists that his mother invite Molly to join the party as the fourteenth guest. This arrangement sparks jealousy in Flora, a wealthy girl who is in love with Jack. To sabotage her, the jealous rival takes Molly and dresses her in a ridiculous, unflattering outfit to embarrass her in front of the high-society crowd. Molly keeps her head and comes out a winner.

Country girl Alice responds to an advertisement for a "movie school" that promises to transform her into a shining star in record time. Upon arriving at the school, Alice is immediately taken advantage of by the operators, who take her "bank roll". The school staff immediately begins a screen test to see how she "registers" in front of a camera, ordering her to perform various poses and emotional expressions to prove her potential.
Millionaire film producer Gordon Bagley wants to marry Ethel St. John, the leading lady in his latest film. Ethel is in love with Arthur Young, the hero of Bagley's lastest movie. Work on the film starts, and at the preview screening is shown to be disasterous. Ethel then goes away with Arthur, while Gordon runs on a rotating movie set.
Romance hits a football player when he falls for an aviatrix.
Billy and Andy impersonate two ice-delivery men in a suburban town. Billy takes a fancy to a newly-wed bride and most of his loose cash is liquidated as he flirts with her. Her husband is not pleased at Billy's attentions to his new bride. There is a skating contest at the local ice-rink, and the bride, her mother and her husband are in attendance, as are Billy and Andy, the icemen.
Energetic college student Eddie navigates a series of comedic mishaps, both slapstick and romantic as he get use to life on campus.
