Captain Harding, grown rich by illegally collecting insurance on self-destroyed boats, decides to settle down and chooses a home near where Old Ben and his daughter, Alice, fisherfolk, live. Alice and Herbert, a young fisherman, are in love. Captain Harding has long had his covetous eyes on the girl and is awaiting an opportunity to get her in his power.

Pietro Roma, maker of plaster figures, is struggling for existence in one room in a tenement with his blind wife and their granddaughter Marianna, who markets her grandfather's products in a pushcart.

Uncle Josh checks into a hotel, presumably to get a better nights rest than he gets at home. Of course the way bad luck follows Josh around we know this is a forlorn hope. Sure enough, quicker than you can say "Georges Méliès" a ghost pops up to make sure Uncle Josh is denied a good nights rest.

Olga Brandt, a stenographer in the office of Stephen Leslie, an attorney, receives a pitifully small salary. In addition she is handicapped by having the sole care of an invalid sister.

Filled with jealousy, the evil witch Maleficent curses Princess Aurora to die on her 16th birthday. Thanks to Aurora's guardian fairies she only falls into a deep sleep that can be ended with a kiss from her betrothed, Prince Phillip. To prevent Phillip from rescuing Aurora, Maleficent kidnaps and imprisons him. The good fairies are the last hope to free Phillip so that he can awaken Aurora.

In medieval Ireland Willy Brennon is a daring adventurer and highwayman in love with young Molly Bawn. Molly lives with her father in a house belonging to the mayor, whose son Jack is infatuated with Molly as well. Willy and Jack at first hold animosity towards each other but soon become allies. The mayor hates Willy and is determined to capture him but through the machinations of Molly and Jack, Willy makes a break for liberty. In time the young lovers are reunited and sail to America.

Jane Darling is an invalid, whose husband, Charles, was formerly a famous actor, but in his old age has come down to be doorkeeper at a theater. For his wife's happiness, Charles still lets her think he is a famous star.

Alice receives an invitation from her grandfather, who is the minister of a small country church, to pay him a visit, which invitation she accepts. Mandy is loved by Jed, but her affections are with the deacon.

"Dad" is the manager of the telegraph room of the Kripps News Service, and for forty years has rendered them invaluable service. Everyone, from Moss, the resident manager, down to the office boy, fairly swears by Dad. A new general manager, Harrison Cole, is engaged and starts out on a tour of inspection of the various branches.

Jonathan Rodd, a wealthy old widower, has a son, Frederick, who has become entangled with an adventuress, Olga, who is forcing him to financial ruin. The old man strives to break up the infatuation, but for the time being fails to do so.
