Kummeli is the name of a Finnish comedy crew formed by Heikki Silvennoinen, Timo Kahilainen and Heikki Hela from Tampere. They are also the heads of Porkkana Ryhmä, the crew's production company. Other famous members have included Olli Keskinen, better known for his on-screen persona Eero Kakko, and Heikki Vihinen who replaced Keskinen in the mid-90s. Kummeli appeared on television between 1991 and 1995. After a successful three-part pilot aired they were given their own show on YLE's channel 2 with a completely new look. The Kummeli TV show was primarily composed of skits with insane characters, but would also feature musical guests as the core crew of the team were actually musicians rather than professional actors. Some episodes would also have a running set of skits that would reach a conclusion at the end of the episode. In the mid-90s, after the end of the show, the Kummeli crew would make random appearances on TV and at different events. During this time Keskinen left the crew and was replaced by Heikki Vihinen.

The years have passed and the children have flown from the nest to the world... except they haven't. On the contrary. Second story revolves around wannabe motorcycle gang and its leader Jouni who are being humiliated at a village shop. Thirdly in the 1960s, a star reporter Erkki "Likasanko" Sysimetsä starts writing a once in a lifetime story about the womanizing of Arvo Hakala, a pipe organ repair man. In the fourth story, a fantasy and sci-fi film director Kurt "Kurre" von Riikonen is looking for financing of his upcoming movie Excalibur IV with catastrophic consequences.
The people at Circus Hepokatti decide to throw a big surprise party for Herman The Clown, but no one seems to know when Herman's birthday is. No one has ever organized a birthday party for him before. The birthday arrangements take a surprising turn when the ruthless leader of a rival circus, the ringmaster Tilpehööri, wants Herman to be the attraction of his own circus by any means necessary. When his attempts to trick Herman fail, Tilpehööri decides to bring in the more extreme methods, and soon things start to get weirder and weirder at the Circus Hepokatti.
