It is 1774, the eve of the American War of Independence. Janice comes from a Tory household. She cavorts with American and British alike, is pursued by Charles Fownes, patriot and friend of General Washington.

The story takes place in the pre-Civil War era South. Judge Price has a fondness for liquor which really goes into overdrive after his wife runs away with another man and she takes their boy with her. He then spends his time wandering around the country with his tee-totaling pal, Solomon Mahaffy. Years pass and the judge learns that his wife has died and her lover is trying to get his hands on her son's inheritance.

On a visit to New York with his wife, Jim Scott steals out one evening for a little adventure and meets a young lady who is weeping. His efforts to assist her result in the arrest of both, and a number of embarrassing complications that threaten Jim's marital happiness. It turns out that the whole experience was a "frame-up"--an effort on the part of Jim's son to force Jim to consent to his marrying a chorus girl.

Political Rivalry between Senator Jim Walton and Tom Pierce is so bitter that it threatens to disrupt their party on the eve of a primary election. A speech by Walton causes Pierce to become angry and it looks like a fight is going to ensue. A musician (Brooke Johns) is heard singing "That Old Gang of Mine" and it brings back childhood memories . Harmony is restores and the past combatants join together for a united front against the opposition party.
