Hairdresser Marilyn's life is going nowhere fast: her salon has run into financial difficulties, her weight is out of control and her affair with a married man is an ongoing disaster.

Investment banker HP has allegedly ridden out the crash of the stock exchange. One evening, on a barbecue event with his banker friends and their wives, HP's Danish au pair girl threatens to blow the whistle on her love affair with HP's married boss. HP wants to please everybody but what was set out to be a gathering amongst friends spins out of control into a night of blackmail and intrigue.

For Mr.Weintraub, an elderly Jew from New York, all Arabs are terrorists, and for Hayat, a young Palestinian woman, all Jews are thieves and murderers. Mrs. Weintraub, a Holocaust survivor, never again wants to set foot on German soil. The story unfolds when the Weintraubs, on their way to Israel, stop in Switzerland. While eating rich German pastry, Mr. Weintraub collapses, and is rushed to a hospital where Hayat, the nurse, has to take care of him.

The reputation of Zurich's Schauspielhaus theater is based on figures such as Bertolt Brecht and Therese Giese, who turned it into a bastion of cultural resistance during the Nazi era. After the war, the global successes of Max Frisch and Friedrich Dürrenmatt consolidated this reputation. But the architect of this glory has been forgotten: Kurt Hirschfeld.
