Mahesh Chopra lives a middle-classed lifestyle with his Government-employee dad, and mom, Shanti, in Government quarters in Bombay. Here he is enrolled in an Arts college, and is in love with wealthy Kiran Mehta, much to the chagrin of her businessman dad. He successfully graduates, and his dad wants him to carry on and get a post-graduate degree. Before he could do so, his dad retires, they are forced to vacate their apartment, and move into slums, where Mahesh's life spirals out of control.
Maharaja Sharminder Bhupathi of Avanti and his wife, the Rajmata, would like to see peace in the region, and would like their daughter, Alaknanda, to marry the prince of Gandharva, Aditya Vardhan. While in Gandharva, Aditya has plans of his own, for he loves a courtesan, Jaswanti, and would not dream of marrying anyone else, much to the disapproval of his brother, Ugrarao. Not to be outdone, Alaknanda loves a young warrior by the name of Vikram Singh. Acharya Abangdev of Avanti has plans of his own, which do not include Alaknanda, as he would like to take the region over and rule over it through Ugrarao. Then the unexpected happens, Aditya is reportedly killed by bandits, and Abangdev announces that Ugrarao be the next king, but at the very moment, Aditya shows up, is crowned the king, and makes sweeping changes to Avanti for the betterment of the people.
The movie is about a customs officer named Sanjeev who seeks revenge against a smuggler after his brother becomes a victim of the criminal, uncovering a dark family secret in the process.
Suraj is a bachelor and a leading industrialist, who is still recovering from being separated from his love, Sushma. Mr. Malhotra has an only daughter named Seema. He would like Seema to marry Pawan, the son of Gautam. Seema is receptive to this, and even arranges to meet with Pawan. While traveling alone one day in the country side, Seema meets up with Vijay, and both fall in love. Unknown to both, Mr. Malhotra has been approached by an international smuggler Niranjan Das, who is impersonating Mr. Malhotra's childhood friend, and has asked for Seema's hand in marriage for his son Roopesh. Seema subsequently has an accident and loses her memory. She is looked after by Gautam, who will not let anyone, including Vijay, to come anywhere near Seema. And even if Seema's memory does return, she will have to consent to marrying Roopesh, her father's choice
Shankar and Shambhu are close friends, who live together in the same house with Shankar's mom. Shankar ferries people in his boat, while Shambhu chops trees for a living. Their friendship, habits, and hobbies are the same, so much so that both fall in love with the same young woman, Reshma. But Reshma gives her heart to Shankar, and decides to marry him. This angers Shambhu, and he decides not to have to do with Shankar and his mom anymore. Then the Thakur's new-found son decides to close the ferries, and operate a motorized boat. He challenges Shankar to a race, with the loser having to leave the community and the profession, to which Shankar agrees.

Middle-classed young and dashing Rohit Kumar Saxena falls in love with wealthy and lovely Reshmi, and both decide to get married. Reshmi's dad, the wealthy Diwan Sardarilal is strongly opposed to this marriage, but relents when Reshmi refuses to marry anyone else. As a result, Rohit and Reshmi get married. Shortly after their marriage, Reshmi gets pregnant, news that is very well received. Then Reshmi enters a beauty pageant, and wins it - being crowned Miss India, with offers to travel abroad. Reshmi decides that she does not want the child now, but Rohit opposes this decision. Both quarrel, and separate, and Reshmi goes back to live with her dad. Shortly thereafter, Sardarilal sends a legal notice to Rohit asking for a divorce. Devastated, Rohit seeks employment, and finds it as a station master at a remote hill station. He meets with Reshmi and her dad, and is humiliated because he is poor.
Young, orphaned and homeless Amar rescues young Vijay and gets adopted by his single mother, Ganga. Both children grow up in Sharifpur, a town that is oppressed by Thakur and his goons, with Amar making a lot of sacrifices so that Vijay gets a good education. He even gives up his love for Sundari after he finds out that Vijay loves her. After Vijay completes his education he becomes a police inspector, returns home not to make life easier for Amar but to arrest him - not only for theft - but also for murder.
Beautiful young heiress, Kajal, is the only daughter of wealthy industrialist Kishorilal. She has fond memories of her childhood male friend, Sanjay, and would like to meet him now, and get married to him, and thereby fulfill their promise they had made when they were children. She meets an eligible young man, who identifies himself as Manjeet Kumar Tana, and she likes him. This young man assures her that he will introduce her to her childhood sweetheart the next day. When she goes to meet Sanjay, she is shocked to find that the young man claiming to be Manjeet, is just a Manager, and it is then she gets to meet the real Manjeet, and both eventually fall in love with each other. But once again, Kajal's heart is broken, when she finds out that Manjeet's real name is Rajesh, and he is part of a deceptive plot that involves her abduction.
