At Theater tonight is a TV show broadcasted from 25th August 1966 to 21st September 1985. The show is broadcast plays recorded in two or three days, during public performances at the Théâtre Marigny on the Champs-Élysées, or sometimes Edouard VII theater.

Unable to pay his bookie, a man returns to his hometown where his embezzler brother and girlfriend plot a robbery that ends in tragedy.

Cleaning lady Lilly Hansen finds her employer, managing director Martinsen, with a knife in his back. The police is summoned and Chief Inspector Bakker is put on the case, despite suffering from the flu. When he arrives at the scene, the body is gone, to Lilly Hansen's dismay. Shortly after a body is found in nearby Palace Park...

Commissioner Brockmann's criminal investigation is prompted by the body found by the cleaner Erna Pieper, which turns out to be very mobile! She disappears and reappears, causing considerable confusion among the survivors. The inspector and the cleaner get into a fierce competition to solve the case. The expert and the naively clever dilettante engage in a veritable battle of applied detective story logic. Which professionally proud expert likes it when a "little woman from the street" keeps messing up his work with her uneducated, "common sense" - and is successful at the same time...

In a large office building, a mysterious murder is committed, after which the body disappears. Lily Hansen, the building's helpful and talkative cleaning lady, is driving the detective investigating the case crazy with her interference. Of course, the mystery can only be solved with her help.

"Good evening... I'd like to report a murder... Where do I live? In the basement... but I'm not there now... I'm on the top floor, in the boss's room... Ah, I don't know who the body is... You like to know, I'm the cleaning lady... How can I check if he's just taking a nap? Maybe, but he's got a dagger sticking out of his back the size of half my arm... So I lock all the doors... don't touch anything... keep my mouth shut and don't tell anyone until you arrive..." - Mrs. Piper, the cleaning lady, begins the eerily cheerful, twisty story with her broken sentences, but at the end we are left with no answer as to why Mrs. Pipper talks so much.
