Teppan is a Japanese television drama that aired on NHK in 2010–2011. It was the 83rd Asadora. It starred a new actress, Miori Takimoto, in the role of a young woman raised by an adopted family in Onomichi who learns of her real grandmother and decides to move to Osaka to start an okonomiyaki restaurant. The title word "teppan" refers to the metal surface on which okonomiyaki are cooked. The series, while interrupted by the Tohoku Earthquake, averaged a 17.2% rating, making it the fourth most popular of the Asadora dramas in the previous five years.

Ieji Hisashi, a salaryman who works for a securities company, has a fuzzy memory of the recent five years because of an accident at his job posting. His wife of five years, Megumi and their 4-year-old son seem to wear masks. He can neither tell their facial expressions nor their emotions. He also struggles about his love for them. The Hyodo-gumi boss—part of Tendokai, Japan’s largest yakuza syndicate—has been brutally murdered. Kazuma Washio (Hitoshi Ozawa), the head of the Washio-gumi and Tendokai’s wakagashira (underboss), is convinced that Yoshinari Myojin (Sho Aikawa), a former Tendokai wakagashira-hosa now running Tokyo’s underworld of thugs and mafia, is behind the killing. Around the same time, Tendokai's 5th-generation chairman Katsushige (Hakuryu) orders Washio to secure a woman named Nagi Toyama (Akane Hotta). Washio sets out with his men, Okita (Yasukaze Motomiya) and Date (Hideo Nakano), but they’re ambushed by a group of heavily armed youths. A dragon appears in modern day Japan, causing a great uproar in Tokyo. On the other hand, at Mitsuyama City located at the foot of Mt Fuji, Yoshio (Yasuda Shota), Kenji (Endo Kaname) and Tamotsu (Honda Chikara), members of the young people’s association, talk idly at the cafe where Yoko (Renbutsu Misako) works. Yoshio, who had gone to buy a game, obtains a mysterious, old document at a secondhand bookstore. It is written literature about dragons. They learn that: warriors of the light had previously destroyed a dragon, Mitsuyama City is the town of their descendents, and a sword and crystal are needed to vanquish a dragon. And, the descendents of the light, who are the new heroes, have coats of arms. A good look reveals that Kenji and the others have them too. The four of them wonder if it is a joke even as they search for the crystal. A variety of reasons make them decide to destroy the dragon despite their conflicts. The spirit of adventure which they had almost forgotten, blossoms, and they take action, for world peace and regional devevlopment.

With the death of Nobuhide Oriki (Tokuma Nishioka), a brutal succession battle erupts within the Oriki-gumi. By vote, Nobunaga (Hitoshi Ozawa) becomes second-generation boss, forcing his brother Nobuyuki into rebellion. In the bloody aftermath, Nobunaga kills both Nobuyuki and his relative Nobuyasu Iwasaki (Hitomi Matsuda). Tragedy deepens as his right-hand man Masahide Hirako (Jiro Okazaki) takes his own life, and his father-in-law Michizo Saimon (Shinzo Hotta) is assassinated in a coup. Now as boss, Nobunaga sets the underworld in motion once more: Ujiyasu Nanjo (Sansho Fukami) rises in Kanto, Motonari Mōriya (Shinichi Chiba) expands in Aki, and in Nagano the fated clash of Kenshin Uemura (Ryuji Harada) and Shingen Takebe (Shun Sugata) begins. But the greatest threat comes from Yoshimoto Imanishi (Naoya Makoto), leading the invasion of Owari. The “war of the elephant and the ant” is about to reach its endgame.

Believing there's a traitor within the organization, Washio (Hitoshi Ozawa) orders Oda (Kōji Matoba), a wakagashira-hosa of Tendokai who has just been released from prison, to investigate. Meanwhile, Washio presses the client behind the whole affair, former METI official Masaoka (Jiro Okazaki), to reveal the truth. But before long, both Nagi Toyama (Akane Hotta)—whom Washio was protecting—and Sumire (Kokoro Nakayama), daughter of Washio’s former senior Kawashima (Naomasa Rokuhira), are kidnapped by Daitoa-dan. To make matters worse, Sumire is drugged and used as bait to lure Washio out. Blinded by rage, Washio storms the Daitoa-dan headquarters alone— But what awaits him there…?
