When Dr. Marcus Sommers realizes that he and his troubled, estranged brother David may be prone a fatal brain disease that runs in their family, he decides to make peace with his sibling, and invites him on a trip to the Rockies. There, the brothers bond over their shared enthusiasm for cycling and decide to enter a grueling bike race through the mountains. However, Marcus' health soon begins to fail, and David must compete without his brother at his side.

Lee Ritenour is one of the world's most renowned jazz guitarists. Initially performing and recording as a sideman with the likes of The Mamas And The Papas, Tony Bennett, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd and Dizzy Gillespie, since 1976 he has been a major solo artist with over 30 albums to his credit. Overtime was filmed in high definition in Enterprise Studios, Burbank in front of a small audience and is a career retrospective of this extraordinary guitarist in which he is accompanied by some of his many collaborators down the years. The concert is split into four distinct sections. The program starts with acoustic jazz and then moves into Brazilian music, followed by Lee's early fusion music and concludes with a set of his most popular tracks from more recent albums. The "Rit Special" DVD captures a live concert performance by Lee Ritenour and his band in California, 1984. The concert showcases a mix of jazz-rock and instrumental pieces, with Ritenour leading the ensemble through various moods and musical styles. The show includes both vocal and instrumental tracks, with vocalists Phil Perry and John Massaro sharing the spotlight on some songs.

This is the debut of Fourplay, a popular quartet comprised of keyboardist Bob James, guitarist Lee Ritenour, bassist Nathan East, and drummer Harvey Mason. The music sounds more or less like a Bob James small-group date with Ritenour as a major soloist. The style is between jazz, R&B, and pop with an emphasis on lightweight originals, soulful and moderately funky rhythms, and predictable radio-friendly music. Nothing unexpected occurs, but fans of James and Ritenour should enjoy both this CD and Fourplay in general.

A strong representation of the current jazz fusion scene got together in july 1991 with this sampling of artists from the GRP label. They included frequent jazz-rock collaborator Ernie Watt, and David Benoit, master of a "jazz-lite" style. But guitarist Lee Ritenour is key man here: he calls most of the shots, and six of the eight pieces are his, including a fine tribute to early inspiration Wes Montgomery on "24th Street Blues." For the most part, easy-going and mellow are the watchwords on this program - not surprising since the players tend to be based in Los Angeles. Ritenour's "Etude" stands out for its creation of atmosphere, and so do Dave Valentin's solo melodic meanderings on a selection of wooden flutes backed by his own vocal effects. All elements considered the bill is a demonstration of top-drawer musicianship, awareness of contemporary styles – and versatility.

When pianist Dave Grusin decided to start his own record company in 1977, he gave birth to what soon became one of the most successful and well-regarded labels in contemporary jazz. GRP All-Stars Live from the Record Plant features Grusin and several of the label's best known artists -- including guitarist Lee Ritenour, horn player Larry Williams, and vocalist Diane Schuur -- performing a live set at L.A.'s world-famous Record Plant Recording Studio in 1985. Throughout his career, guitarist Lee Ritenour has experimented with different styles of music. A true Jazz fusionist, he has often incorporated elements of funk, pop, rock, blues, Brazilian in his compositions. David Grusin is an American composer, arranger and pianist. Throughout his career he won numerous awards for his soundtracks and record works, including an Academy award and 12 Grammys.

This was recorded live at Shibuya Bunkamura, Orchard Hall, Tokyo Japan on June 3rd 1995. Tracks include: Crosstown Kids, Closed Door Jam, Low Steppin', Remembering JP, After the Rain, Larry's Blues, Smiles and Smiles To Go, Wes Bound, Etude, Take That, Lee's Solo, 4 on 6, Room 335, and LA Underground.

Filmed in Los Angeles in 1990, the complete Live at the Cocoanut Grove will do nothing to alter indifference from jazz purists toward fusion guitarist Lee Ritenour. But hardcore Rit fans and other viewers without a jazz-pop ax to grind will find this concert a particularly stimulating, wonderfully textured musical event built around the star and a parade of international talent.
