A group of ruthless gangsters, an unknown woman and an escaped convict have met, in The Forest of Resurrection, the 444th portal to the other side. Their troubles start when those once killed and buried in the forest come back from the dead.

A group of rogue martial artists take over a peaceful city and it is down to Hikaru, an ex-con fresh out of a five-year prison sentence for manslaughter, to take out the violent gang. She recruits other martial arts heroes to destroy the criminals and will use her legendary Whip Fist Karate.

The protagonist, high school student Akira Sakaguchi (played by Atsushi Harada), desires a normal human life, yet he is a vampire who cannot survive without consuming human blood. The series depicts the various human relationships surrounding Akira. It faced accusations of plagiarism for bearing striking similarities to Kazumasa Hirai's novel “The Wolf's Crest,” leading Hirai to publicly criticize Naoyuki Tomomatsu, who served as both screenwriter and director for this work.

Rinko Murakumo used to be a detective until she shot a serial martial arts murderer and resigned from the force. Her daughter went missing during the incident and she has spent years looking for her. One day, she stumbles upon a human trafficking case and surveillance footage from the crime scene shows a woman who looks like the one Rinko suspects took her daughter together with someone who might possibly BE her daughter…

The leader of Soul Crew, the toughest gang in Tokyo, was viciously killed. Shortly after that an anonymous challenge appeared in graffiti scrawls all over the city "inviting" all of the city's gang leaders to a fighting tournament that will settle which group has the power to rule Tokyo. Everyone knew refusing to participate was not an option.
