Der Kommissar is a German television series about a group of detectives of the Munich homicide squad. All 97 episodes, which were shot in black-and-white and first broadcast between 1969 and 1976, were written by Herbert Reinecker and starred Erik Ode as Kommissar Herbert Keller. Keller's assistants were Walter Grabert, Robert Heines, and Harry Klein who, in 1974, was replaced by his younger brother Erwin Klein.

The emigrants named in the title are notable Germans who left the country before World War II, such as Greta Keller and Grete Mosheim. From 1928 to 1943, Haus Vaterland was a large restaurant and entertainment palace in Berlin on Potsdamer Platz, originally run by Kempinksi, with around one million visitors per year, which can be regarded as the forerunner of today's event gastronomy. In the guest rooms there were a variety of theme restaurants, including the Palmensaal, a dance hall, where in addition to musical and artistic events, demonstrations and variety programs. The visitors of Haus Vaterland were mainly tourists from outside Berlin.
