Small village farmers grow tobacco which they are forced to sell to the government for next-to-nothing prices. This repeats with Italians during the WW2, and with the communists after the war. Boiling point is getting high.

During the Battle of Sutjeska, partisan troops must endure 24 hours of big and heavy attacks on German units Ljubino grave, to the main Partisan units, with the wounded and the Supreme Headquarters, pulled out the ring that is tightened around them.

Grown up in an atmosphere of failed marriage of his parents, a young man wants to go his way throughout life. School he finished doesn't give him the opportunity to find a job, so he accepts the position of a beach guard in winter period.

Kai Wodar is the son of a German-Yugoslav couple in Vienna. His father works as Milan coach in professional football and has at the time in Austria a commitment. But Kai, the name his friends Fips, his mother can hardly know, they killed in a traffic accident. For several years he brings to a boarding school before his father, now married to the Yugoslav Gordana, brings him back to himself. For Fips begin restless years; Milan Wodar constantly changes clubs.

WW2 has ended, but that doesn't mean the end of problems for an ex-Partisan who now must take care of reconstruction, as well as the building of a new society in a small Serbian town.

The two young men roam through the night. One of them proposes a girl he just met in a supermarket for a fun. However, the wedding actually comes true a few days later at a river canal near the small town. Influenced by booze and boredom, the old problems emerge.

Zoran leads a quiet family life with his wife, a primary school teacher Ana, their son, and Ana’s brother. Zoran works as a clerk and has a great desire to attend a symposium in Dubrovnik, but the manager will not sign the travel order.
