A famous singer, Aasha, falls in love with a truck driver, who believes his wife is dead, but when Aasha discovers that his wife is alive, she struggles as to whether she should reveal this information, and possibly lose him.

J.K. is a hotel Manager in a scenic location in India. One day he gallantly comes to the rescue of a drunk daughter, Aarti, of a politician, and chooses to be discrete about it. When she recovers, she and he fall in love; get married in a small marriage ceremony, have a daughter, and thereafter differences arise to such an extent that they decide to separate. Years pass J.K. and Aarti meet again when she is an established politician, both are still attracted to each other, but she does not want her name to be tarnished and stigmatized as a "separated" woman.

Nisha believes she is happily married until she discovers that her successful businessman husband, Kabir, has been having an affair with her cousin, Indu. The Verma family consists of two brothers, Vijay and Sharad (Jeetendra and Govinda respectively), Vijay's wife, Ganga (Reena Roy), and their daughter. Sharad is unmarried and is studying in college, while Vijay runs the household on his income. In college, Sharad meets with Punam (Meenakshi Sheshadhri) and both are attracted to each other. Ganga and Vijay get them married, but permit them a married life only after they complete their studies, which they do so. They are devastated to learn that Punam cannot be a mother, so Ganga lets Punam mother her child. Soon Sharad gets a job, which gets him to re-locate to another city, and there are tearful good-byes. Punam decides to keep Ganga's child with her. But Ganga has been kind to Punam and Sharad for a reason, and now the time has come for payback.

Rajesh Khanna plays Mumtaz's jealous husband who begins to doubt her fidelity when his best friend Sanjeev Kumar enters their lives. She is unable to convince Rajesh Khanna that she loves only him. He leaves her, not knowing that she is pregnant with his child. Depressed and confused, Rajesh Khanna becomes a homeless wanderer, while Mumtaz remarries to provide a secure home for her child. Many years later, the truth dawns on him as he turns up, a broken man, at his own daughter's wedding.

A young man, Swaroop, moves to Bombay and is immediate mugged and left without shelter. He meets a man who helps him find a place to stay and a job, but Swaroop doesn't know that the man is a notorious gangster.

The Verma family consists of Mrs. Verma, the mother; Anil, the son; and a daughter named Vinnie. Anil loves Shobha, and hopes to marry her someday. While Vinnie loves Rakesh and also hopes to marry him someday too. Shobha and Rakesh both work for JK, a multi-millionaire industrialist. Anil has to goes overseas for a year to better his prospects. He promises to stay in touch with Shobha. However, after a year when Anil returns he finds that Vinnie and Rakesh have married, and is heart-broken to find that Shobha had married JK. Dejected but not beaten, he marries another girl by the name of Sona, but is unable to get Shobha out of his mind. Sona resents this, and one day follows him, and finds him in bed with none other than Shobha.

After her fiancé is killed in an accident, Seema becomes a bar dancer and is raped. When her fiancé miraculously returns, she learns that her rapist is his uncle.

Anil meets Radhika when searching for his new workplace. This begins a romance, although Radhika eventually discovers he already has a child from a former marriage.

Shyam works for Mr. Choudhry, and lives in a small village in India with his mother. Ranjeet, Shyam's childhood friend, returns from overseas, and all are overjoyed to see him back. Ranjeet and Shyam have a lot in common: Both are handsome, dedicated, pleasant and polite; Both share the same date of birth; and both also love the same woman, Barkha. It is the last similarity that causes friction between the two, so much so that Shyam is accused of impregnanting another woman, Roopa, and charged with stealing money.

The happenings of one night. A young heiress, on the run from her murderous uncle, roams the streets of Bombay where she runs into a series of shady characters. To escape from them, she makes a rendezvous with all of them to meet her early next morning at the Gateway of India, which also happens to be the locale for some covert criminal activity involving her uncle, the idea being to nab the crooks red-handed.
