The year 1957 was one of the most prolific for the Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman: he shot two films, released two of his most celebrated films and produced four plays and a TV movie while juggling with a complicated private life.

A filmmaker sets out to create the greatest film in history, but finds out that human abilities have limits.

A film adaptation of Selma Lagerlöf's classic book about Nils Holgersson, who is a real rascal. As punishment for his mischief, a house elf shrinks him to his size. The farm animals are out for revenge and so Nils must escape on the back of a goose from Skåne in the south to Lapland in the north. During his flight over Sweden, Nils gets to take part in many adventures.

Filmed during the first ever Guldbaggen (golden scarab) awards, it was edited and developed that night and shown for the first time to the guests at the after party.

"The Shadow" - Erik Vender is a librarian and married to Vivianne. Vivianne was previously married to a well-known lawyer who died when their daughter was very small. One evening, Vivianne asks Erik to read a novel draft "Skuggan/The Shadow". The content strongly touches Erik. Vivianne reveals that it is her ex-husband that wrote the script.

Anders and Sylvia are set to be married, but Sylvia says 'no' and runs away at the altar.

Lena and her husband Sven argues in a summer cabin by the sea. She runs away, leaving Sven with his friend Pelle. A travelling projectionist turns up in the evening and shows them some films of how a relationship can look like from different perspectives.

Elin Tarp is an unmarried mother with three children who lives a hard life in the countryside.

The young girl Lisbet lives on the farm Tolfmansgården together with her mother, her older brother Jerker and their grandparents.

Renowned journalist Torgny Segerstedt declares war against Hitler as he criticizes Swedish politicians who tried to look away from the tyranny of the Nazis with the good excuse of “neutralism”. His only weapon is his pen and his life is full of gossip such as an affair with his boss’ wife, a love scandal with a secretary younger than his daughter, and the suicide of his wife. However, he continues to fight a one man battle against Hitler and the Nazi regime until his death, throwing the question “Can one person really change history?” to the audience.

Set on the island of Ven in the 1920s, Ellen is engaged with Per the sailor and waits for him while he is away at sea. She works as a maid in a rich family where Robert, the black sheep of the family, tries to seduce her. This leads to a rumour she has been unfaithful to Per. Plot by Mattias Thuresson.

In a small town called Skrabbarp in Southern Sweden lives the school teacher Sebastian Pettersson, an amateur detective and one of the most diligent correspondents of the Stockholm police.

A devoted but controversial priest comes to a Swedish village. He encounters conflicts with the locals. The priest has some problems within his family as well. One is related to an orphan girl.

Sven Bergström is charged with murder, alternatively a man slaughter, on an infamous professional poker player called "The Rover". The trial is in progress. In retrospect, we witness Svens life until the time of the crime.

The 1880s. Abandoned by his middle class parents in Stockholm, Johannes grows up in the countryside with a cobbler who regularly beats him up. Also at school he has to face regular beatings because of his Stockholm background, the only one who cares for him is a girl, Lotta, who promises to marry him one day. In a fictional future totalitarian society ruled as a one-party state. A teacher commits the crime to teach their students to think independently and is therefore being stalked. The fictional Monismania also appeared in Astrid Lindgren's saga about the witch Pomperipossa in the Monismanian 1976.

In a rural parish in 1906, young Heikki, one of the Finnish immigrants, lives a wild and free life in the deep forest. After poaching, his furs are confiscated and Heikki vows to have his revenge by seducing the young women of the parish, one by one.
