From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Si Doel Anak Sekolahan is an Indonesian soap opera produced, written and directed by Rano Karno who also plays the main character as Doel/Kasdullah. This soap opera has a storyline about the life of Doel and his family, a Betawi family who still maintain traditional values ​​even though they live in the midst of the current modernization of urban Jakarta.[1] In addition to Rano, this soap opera also stars Benyamin Sueb, Maudy Koesnaedi, Cornelia Agatha, Aminah Cendrakasih, Mandra, Suti Karno and Basuki. Consisting of 6 seasons and 139 episodes, the story is a modern version of the novel Si Doel Anak Betawi by Aman Datuk Majoindo and the film of the same name directed by Sjumandjaja in 1972. In the film version, Rano Karno also plays the role of little Doel and Benyamin S. plays Doel's father. It's just that at that time, Doel's father's name was Asman, not Sabeni like the soap opera version.

Doel, a child growing up in a Betawi society, who is trying to break the pragmatism of the society that considers the Betawi people to be conservative by getting as high an education as possible. After his father's death in an accident, he and his mother becomes a seller to survive.

Darman, his daughter Ida, and Slamet the servant, go into the woods to hunt. Ida was lost when Darman and Slamet are chasing a tiger. Ida ends up in Tarsan's hut. They become close though at first, Tarsan has problems speaking the Indonesian language. Then he agrees to go to the city and learn how to be an urbanite. It is not easy as he is even harassed by Ida’s friends who do not like him.

Samson was born after 13 months in his mother's womb (Mak Wok). Before birth, he predicted Mas Sastro (Eddy Gombloh) that the son of Mr. Hamid (A. Hamid Arief) would have great strength and if his armpits were shaved, his strength would be lost. Pak Hamid was made a lot of headache because of Samson's behavior after birth. He often fights, so the opposing parents often ask for compensation from Mr. Hamid. Finally Hamid's family fell into poverty until finally, 17 years later Samson was determined to go to the city to look for work. In the city he meets Siti Duile (Yatni Ardi) accidentally who is almost hit by a car. Samson helped Duile and them get acquainted. Secretly Sutan Malenggang Di Langit (Mansyur Syah), a promoter, also saw the incident, and finally invited Samson to partner in a show that featured Samson as a strongman and wrestling match.

Sabeni or Ben is an amateur painter who lives in Puncak. He meets Grace and Yuni the sisters, who are replacing their car’s tyre. Ben helps them and thereafter goes often to see Grace. Grace is a daughter of a rich businessman and she asks him to join her band when she learns that Ben is a singer. When Grace’s father is ill, she rushes home and Ben tries to go after her even though he doesn’t know her address. He only knows the address of his friend, Bagio, located behind a tall building that is actually the office of Grace’s father. Finally, Ben becomes a famous singer but Grace’s father still disapproves. Grace is instead matched with Mansjur, who turns out to be a playboy. Thereafter, Grace’s father permits Ben to see her again.

Benny is a college student who studies farming. He gets an assignment to go to a village while he works on his thesis. On his way there, he meets Erni, a high school friend who is also heading to the same village. In the village, he stays in the house of the village chief and his daughter, Euis, is a beautiful young woman. During his work, the locals often distract Benny, since they want Euis’ attention. The relationship between Euis and Benny deteriorates further when Erni comes with her group. The misunderstanding is overcome when she realises that Erni comes to join the harvesting party in the village and to entertain them with her singing.

Beni, who has been dating Ida for a long time, is now interested in Ratmi, who becomes a queen of a competition by bribing the judges. The director of the biscuits factory where Ratmi works, uses her image as an advertisement for the biscuits. When Ratmi’s pet goat disturbs her neighbour, Ida’s widowed sister, Beni sells the goat and he uses sale’s commission to date Ida. Other comedic incidents are strung together in this generic comedy.

The King of Parun becomes angry at his adopted son, Tun Utama, who turns down every princess as his future fiancée. So his Majesty orders Tun Utama to find his own choice of a girl. When Tun Utama fails to accomplish the mission and would end up beheaded, Syarifah manages to save her lover by bringing the bearded weasel in a trunk, hidden inside is a man, a member of the royal family in the palace of Parun.

The constant bickering of these two poor families (the role of the creditors in Jaim's family life is also depicted) culminates in their house catching fire. And Mr. RT (A. Hamid Arief), who happens to be the committee for the departure of transmigrants to Lampung, sends them to the transmigration area.

At the Jakarta Fair, there is a rumour that a major tycoon from Makassar will come looking for new machines and a business partner. There is a flurry of excitement as everyone tries to get the tycoon’s employees to drop by their stands. Mansur, one of business owners in the fair, asks his secretary, Sinta, to find Andi Rachmat Syah, the tycoon. Sinta then approaches Andi, a handsome man employed by the tycoon, to find out about his boss. The man promises to tell Sinta on one condition, that she has to take him around the fair. Samiaji, Mansur’s business competitor, who has a crush on Sinta, is jealous when he finds out about it. Till the end of the story, nobody knows that Andi takes Sinta home after nights of going around the Jakarta Fair.

In the Islamic tradition, when a person is buried and the binding of their cover cloth is not released, the dead will become a ‘pocong’ ghost (mythical ghost of the dead who can jump around). Another belief is that if you have unpaid debts, a cat will jump over your dead body and you’ll become a ghost. Joyoprono, a rich landlord and a loan shark, who was greedy during his life dies when a tree falls on him. After his death, a ‘pocong’ ghost comes to the village and disturbs the peace.

Pengki is a mischievous prankster who constantly causes trouble for his employer, Johan, his wife, and his parent-in-law.
