During the Napoleonic Wars, when the French have occupied Spain, some Spanish guerrilla soldiers are going to move a big cannon across Spain in order to help the British defeat the French. A British officer is there to accompany the Spanish and along the way, he falls in love with the leader's girl.

Rodolfo and Petrita each live in separate quarters in dilapidated Madrid, while looking to have a little apartment (or "pisito", in Spanish dialect). Unfortunately their low salaries prevent them from acquiring one. Soon, Rodolfo's co-workers urge him to marry the old and frail Doña Martina, who is the main tenant in the apartment he boards in. He nostalgically recalls the ship's history, so closely linked to his own. There he met Mary, his fiancée, and when they both believed themselves to be the happiest people in the world, the outbreak of the Civil War abruptly separated them. Mary went to seek refuge with her family in the besieged Simancas barracks, which "the Cervera" was ordered to bombard when the enemy stormed it. Mendoza heard nothing more of his fiancée while the war continued. Antonio, the older brother, was assigned to the famous "bous" (cruisers) that carried out such important missions across the open sea, and the younger brother, Manuel, served as an officer on the cruiser "Baleares." Through each of their stories, we learn about the main actions of the battle for control of the sea.

A scientist develops a serum that can eradicate scar tissue. He tries it on a girl with a horribly disfigured face. It succeeds, but then he discovers the girl is an escaped mental patient from a local asylum.

A group of young people pretending to achieve fame rehearse in a kind of pediment. Finally they will get a contract to act in television, but an error floods the study.

Manuela and Juan, a young couple who has been married for four years, likes to practice sexual games. As part of that games they want to include Juan's secretary, an old nun, secretly in love with Manuela.
