Tyrannical and wealthy Veer Pratap Singh, rules over a small town - ruthlessly. Whoever opposes him is crushed. He is attracted to women, and has a lengthy affair with Soundariya, and even has a secret marriage ceremony with her. When Soundariya gets pregnant, he asks her to abort the child. When she refuses, he shuns her, and denies ever having married her or even being intimate with her. Her brothers attempt to get justice, but are dealt with ruthlessly by Pratap Singh's bodyguard, Bhima. Soundariya then must garner support of herself, and must find someone who can stand up to Veer Pratap Singh and end his tyranny, in a town with men who have been subdued for eons by Veer Pratap Singh and his men for eons.

The film follows the story of Shankar, who is regarded as a criminal by society after being in jail for ten years since childhood.

Inspectors Amar (Dharmendra) and Dayal (Raza Murad) in their attempt to arrest bandit Sher Singh (Amrish Puri),, get injured, Amar survives, but Dayal gets his legs crushed and becomes wheelchair-bound. Later, Amar arrests local politician Jagannath Prasad (Kader Khan), who gets released without being charged while Amar gets reprimanded, and decides to resign. Later, Sher Singh hijacks a bus and holds the passengers as hostages in exchange for 25 of his jailed associates. Dayal's granddaughter, Seema (Mandakini), is amongst them, and Dayal asks Amar for assistance. Amar, along with ex-convict, Qasim Ali (Shatrughan Sinha), and Karan (Karan Kapoor), a drug-dealer, does manage to rescue them but differences crop up among the trio and they part ways. Then Amar finds out that Qasim and Karan have masterminded a plan to facilitate the escape of the 25 convicts, and decides to confront them.

Father Henry (Rehman) entrusts a newly-born infant in the care of an unwed Maya (Nutan), leaving her to explain the presence of the child. She is literally thrown out of the village and runs away to Bombay. There she is taken care of by a kind-hearted Muslim taxi-driver (Jayant). Years later, the child grows up to be called Ram (Jeetendra), but the question haunting everyone's mind is who is Ram's biological father?

Ranjit is the right-hand man of a gangster named "Uncle". But that does not happen, Ranjit survives, rescued by Anju, and he helps her free her brother, Rakesh, from Pratap's clutches. Then some priceless jewelery is placed on display, and a number of gangsters decide to try and steal them, knowing fully well that there is a 24 hour police guard, as well as an alarm system. It is after this robbery that the past will be re-visited and it is then a number of people, on whom Ranjit has depended upon, will come to know of his real background, including the murder he committed before he started his career as a criminal.

Anand lives a wealthy lifestyle in Bombay in a palatial house, and runs a business 'Export India'. While shopping at Roopsagar Clothing Store, he meets one of the Sales Clerks', Sharda, and falls in love with her. Shortly thereafter he proposes to her, she accepts, and both marry at the Registrar of Marriages. Sharda is shown around Anand's house, and the guest-house which houses his ex-convict father. Sharda soon settles in, establishes a Devi Maa Durga Mandir, but will find her life turning upside down when she discovers a deadly secret from Anand's past.

Kedarnath Bhargav, his wife, Laxmi, and two sons, Ram and Lakshman are homeless. While traveling, their train derails and the family is separated into 3 groups. While Laxmi works as a maidservant in the house of Bombay's Mayor and his daughter, Rekha; Ram has been abducted by a career criminal, and Kedarnath & Lakshman are together. Ratanlal Verma, a kind-hearted man, with a son named Prakash comes to Lakshman's rescue

Anju lives a wealthy lifestyle with her widowed dad, Dhanraj, on a privately owned island. She studies in a hostel, plays on the football team, but is known for getting into fights with other girls, rather then taking part in this sport. But before that could happen, six men men who had duped by Dhanraj several years ago, arrive on the island incognito, enlist the assistance of the island's native people, led by Heera, who have been oppressed by Dhanraj and Captain Ashok, to recover their loot and kill Dhanraj and Anju. It is here that Anju will find out that the reason Shekhar accompanied her was not because he loves her, but for quite some other unknown and devious reason.
