Biography

Ann Robinson (May 25, 1929–September 26, 2025) was an American actress. Robinson was born in Hollywood, California to a bank employee father. She began her professional life as a stunt woman. Paramount signed her as an actress in the 1950s, and her first leading role was as "Sylvia Van Buren" in that studio's 1953 film, The War of the Worlds, a role she reprised 35 years later in three episodes of the War of the Worlds television series. She also had a small role in Steven Spielberg's 2005 film remake. Her career as a leading woman was effectively ended when she eloped to Mexico to marry a matador, Jaime Bravo, with whom she had two sons, Jaime Jr. and Estefan. Following that, she played minor roles, mainly in science fiction films. The couple divorced in 1967 and Bravo died in an automobile accident in 1970. She married real estate broker Joseph Valdez in 1987. In her later years, Robinson made guest appearances at autograph shows and science fiction conventions. She died on September 26, 2025.

Surfside 6 was an ABC television series which aired from 1960 to 1962. The show centered on a Miami Beach detective agency set on a houseboat and featured Troy Donahue as Sandy Winfield II; Van Williams as Kenny Madison; and Lee Patterson as Dave Thorne. Diane McBain co-starred as socialite Daphne Dutton, whose yacht was berthed next to their houseboat. Margarita Sierra also had a supporting role as Cha Cha O'Brien, an entertainer who worked at The Boom Boom Room, a popular Miami Beach hangout at the Fontainebleau Hotel, directly across the street from Surfside 6. Surfside 6 was in fact a real address in Miami Beach, where an unrelated houseboat was moored at the time; it can also be seen in the sweeping aerial establishing shot of the Fontainebleu in 1964's Goldfinger.
