Biography
Amor Hakkar is an Algerian filmmaker as well as a producer, screenwriter and actor currently active in French film industry. He was born on 1 January 1958 in mountainous village Aurès in Khenchela region of Algeria. At the age of 6 months, he arrived France with his parents. Since then, they lived in Besançon. His father Chays Hakkar influenced him to pursuing scientific studies. In 1990, Hakkar directed his first short film titled Teach me to count to infinity. Then in 1992, he made the first feature film Bad Time for a Thug. It was a collaborative work with Pierre-Loup Rajot, Sylvie Fennec and Serge Giamberardino and produced by the company Rage au cœur films. In 1994, he began filming in France and Italy the film Ailleurs c'est beau aussi with Mado Maurin and Pierre Remund. Then in 1998, Hakkar moved to his native region the Aurès to bury his father's remains, where he filmed the blockbuster television film Timgad, la vie au cœur des Aurès, a 52-minute documentary for France 5 TV. Meanwhile, in 2001, he won the Marcel Aymé Prize for the book titled La cité des fausses notes. In 2005, Hakkar created the film production company Sarah Films. In 2008, he released the next film The Yellow House (La Maison jaune) in theaters in France and Algeria, and later in Switzerland and Canada. The film won 37 awards around the world and was critically acclaimed. The film won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at Locarno Film Festival as well as Special Jury award at the International Film Festival of Kerala. Then in 2010, he directed his third feature film Quelques jours de répit, which was entirely shot in Franche-Comté. It was released in France on 27 April 2011 and selected in World Cinema section at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, becoming the only French film selected. In 2013, he made the film La Preuve within 14 days accompany with Nabil Asli and Anya Louanchi. It was distributed by his own production company, Sarah Films and the film was released in theaters in July 2014. In 2015, he directed the film Celle qui vivra with Meryem Medjkane, Muriel Racine, Nicolas Dufour, Hichem Berdouk and Caroline Fouilhoux. The film was inspired by an original screenplay by Florence Bouteloup and the film released in theaters in 2017. In 2018, he directed the film Le Choix d'Ali.
Known For
Mohsen teaches French at the University of Tehran, and Hassan is a photographer. Mohsen and Hassan are also lovers, and in Iran they live in fear, as homosexuality is punishable by death. Tired of denying their love, Mohsen and Hassan flee Iran to head to Paris, where they'll be illegal aliens but can at least live openly as a couple. To avoid arousing suspicion until they arrive in Paris, Mohsen and Hassan keep their distance while traveling, and during a train stop, Mohsen helps a sixty-ish women, Yolande, with her luggage. The two strike up a conversation and she clearly enjoys his company; over dinner, she offers to help him find work in town and let him stay at her apartment. It's clear to Yolande that Mohsen is an illegal immigrant, but she doesn't realize that he's gay, and he finds himself wondering if he should stay with Hassan or live with Yolande, where he would not have love but would enjoy safety, security and could easily become a French citizen through marriage.
A Few Days of Respite
Algeria, in the arid landscapes of the Aures Mountains, a little girl named Aya plowing a piece of land. A police car and two officers were to give a letter announcing the death of Belkacem, his older brother, who was in another city doing military service. As the family learns of the news, Mouloud, the father starts to collect the body of his son. Courageous and determined challenges various dangers. Although empathy and compassion for people who are located along the road, the journey is marked by loneliness and suffering. Back, Mouloud find his wife, Fatima, seized with a deep sadness. Fearing that never recovers, does his best to see her smile and try to find a remedy to unhappiness without surrendering.

Celle qui vivra
In Paris, Ali lives with his partner Eric. They're happy. But one day, Ali receives a phone call from his sister who warns him that their mother had a stroke. Ali decides to return to Besançon, his hometown. But he dreads the trip because, five years earlier, he was rejected by his parents and those around him who could not accept his homosexuality.
Le choix d'Ali
Ali, a taxi driver in Algeria, and his wife, Houria, are unable to have children. When he travels to another city to test his fertility, he is accused by Fatima, a pregnant woman, of being the father of her unborn child. When Houria leaves him, Ali can either reveal his infertility or live with his alleged infidelity.
