Ein unvergeßliches Wochenende

At the battle of Solferino Joseph von Trotta, a lieutenant in the Slovenian infantry, is wounded while saving the life of the young Austrian Emperor Franz-Joseph I. The Emperor rewards him by elevating him in society to a position quite out of keeping with his social rank, and which entirely alienates him from his farming background: Joseph gets promoted to the rank of captain, and is made a member of the nobility. Years later Joseph von Trotta accidentally finds a description of the battle that changed his life in a text-book belonging to his son Franz. Enraged at the over-emotional, patriotic and sentimental way in which the Emperor's rescue at the hands of "the Hero of Solferino" is depicted, he lodges a complaint at the Imperial Court.

Es muss nicht immer Kaviar sein is a TV adaption of a novel of the same name by Austrian author Johannes Mario Simmel. Directed by Thomas Engel Siegfried Rauch walks in the footsteps of O. W. Fischer who played the protagonist "Thomas Lieven" already in 1961, just one year after the bestseller had been released. The series is unique for providing a little cooking show at the end of each episode. The book also includes recipes because "Thomas Lieven" is an accomplished amateur cook.

"Spring Symphony" is the story of Robert Schumann and Clara Wieck. Both were music entities. Robert Schumann turns out to have been a second tier composer, if that, never rising to the heights of a Beethoven or Mozart. In contrast, Clara Wieck was a master technician in the playing of the piano, a composer (probably not at Schumann's level), and was a child prodigy.

In 1882, Colonel St. Arnaud traveled to the Harz Mountains with his wife Cecile to forget a duel that had fatal consequences and forced St. Arnaud to resign from the army. Cecile was the catalyst for this duel. During their stay at the spa, the couple meets the young officer von Gordon. Cecile and Gordon develop feelings for each other, which Arnaud supports with mocking arrogance. Gordon is called away at short notice. The romance is over. In Berlin, however, Gordon seeks out Cecile again. They see each other more and more often until Cecile, panicked by Gordon's possessiveness and her own feelings, breaks up with him. In a fit of jealousy, Gordon compromises Cecile in public. Arnaud challenges him to a duel and kills him. Cecile commits suicide. Arnaud's message, asking her to forget the unfortunate incident on a trip together, no longer reaches her.
