English-dubbed and re-edited version of the 1959 Soviet film Nebo Zovyot. Acquired by Roger Corman and reworked by a young Francis Ford Coppola, the film relocates its Cold War “space race” to a fictional future where rival nations—North Hemis and South Hemis—compete to reach Mars first. When one crew’s mission goes awry, their rivals risk their own flight to attempt a daring rescue nearthe Martian moons, where strange cosmic dangers await.

The Second World War is over. The post-war Germany is divided into several responsibility zones. Still many Russian people languish in camps located in the American zone. Though former allies are in no hurry to let them off to the motherland, and even try to enroll some of them. The American intelligence agency gets to know that they've got a daughter of one of the West Germany cities commandant, whose brother is a famous soviet rocket engineering designer. They plan a crafty operation on the discrimination of the Russian colonel and introduction of the niece into the uncles design office. The Russian Intelligence service is also aware of the Americans interest in the designers works. The special department colonel Lartsev is coming from Moscow to Germany to prepare a reciprocal operation.

This, the first Soviet depiction of Peter the Great, set the stage for what would become the post-Revolutionary line concerning the early Romanovs. Rulers like Ivan the Terrible and Peter the Great were widely admired for their dedication to Russia and their absolute determination to enhance her position in the world. But praise for the hated later Romanovs conflicted too heavily with the very beliefs that had brought about the Revolution in 1917.

Fedotov begins seeking contacts with headquarters, but faces problems when a Ukrainian Nazi collaborator manages to infiltrate the Soviet partisans.

The vessel "Zaporozhets" sails on another overseas voyage. When the ship was already in the open ocean, radio operator Lesya Gordienko received an SOS radio message from a yacht carrying the daughter of English shipowner Alice Masefield and her fiance Michael Payton. After taking away Alice's life belt, Michael plunged into the water, leaving Alice on the burning yacht. Drowning Alice is rescued by Yuri Tsymbalyuk, a cadet at the naval academy. The intern and Lesya had a long-standing friendship, but Yuri's frivolous actions prevented them from explaining themselves to the end. The film adaptation of Taras Shevchenko’s biography of 1925 is the first Ukrainian biopic. At that time, it was one of the most expensive films, as for the first time experts in history, ethnography, and literary studies were involved in pre-production.
