Rookie beat cop Daizaburo "Eddie" Ban buddies up with "Sleepy" John Estes, a veteran cop whose over-the-top tactics have earned him street name "Mad Bull". From his first day on the force, Eddie has his hands full protecting New York City's 34th precinct from street thugs, keeping the mafia at bay, and keeping a lid on Mad Bull's unprofessional instincts.

The 13-year-old Benny's father has mysteriously disappeared on an expedition to Sirius. Almost at the same time, attacks start from the alien intars to the Earth dwellers. They implant themselves in the bodies of the inhabitants of the earth. Due to the mysterious disappearance of Benny's father, he is accused of making common cause with the intars. Benny, who has remained behind, suffers greatly from these accusations and hopes one day to be able to unravel the mystery of his father's disappearance and that of the intars. He joins the "White Pegasus," a special unit to combat the Intars and fight together with them against the aliens in the human body. For this, they scale a spaceship down to microscopic size and infiltrate it into the infested body.

The story takes place in old Tokyo, the Tokyo of August-September 1923. At this moment in time, the city is a mixture of extremes... past and present, rich and poor, good and bad. This is a city where we see both horsecarts and motorcars, swords and pistols, lords and businessmen. A wealthy woman from an upper-class family finds herself attracted to a handsome young man, Taka. He and his younger brother seem to be allied, perhaps not entirely willingly, with some of the city's criminal underground (Yakuza). The lady's lovely young maidservant, Sara, meets him too, and a conflict ensues which can only lead to tragedy, passion, and dishonor. But, as events move on, and the days pass, the viewer sees a terrible date coming closer... that unforgettable day of September 1, 1923, at 11:58, when the Great Kanto Earthquake and tidal wave struck Tokyo, causing the death of almost 100,000 people, one of the greatest disasters in human history.

The year is 1945. Everything as usual in the Fukuoka city. Some places in Japan have already been scorched by the fire of war, but here it is relatively peaceful and calm. They, as the rest of the city, do not yet know that on June 19 their life will be divided into "before" and "after".

An indentured Chinese laborer, brought to Japan to work in a coal mine during WWII, manages to escape his captors. He hides out in the Japanese countryside, so far from human habitation that he does not realize when the war ends, with ultimately tragic results.
