Synopsis
In the small Moravian town of ZvÄ›stov, all the men live for historical battles. They represent the French army, led by their mayor Touchyn (Bolek PolĂvka), who has had a monopoly on the role of Napoleon for years. This time, they are preparing for a big event—the unveiling of a Napoleonic fountain in the neighboring town of PodolĂ, attended by television crews and journalists. However, the mayor of PodolĂ has bad news for Touchyn – this time he has hired a real foreign actor to play Napoleon, who looks more like him. Touchyn is offended and decides to ignore the ceremony. He convinces the people of ZvÄ›stov to do the same, but they regret that they have rehearsed for nothing...

The movie's main storyline follows the life of OtĂk, a young man, in a tight-knit village community. The sweet-tempered OtĂk works as an assistant truck driver with Mr. Pávek, his older colleague and practical-minded neighbor. Pávek's family takes care of OtĂk, whose parents are dead. However, the two coworkers become at odds over OtĂk's inability to perform even the simplest tasks. Pávek demands that OtĂk be transferred to assist another driver, who happens to be a choleric and suspicious man named Turek (Turk in Czech). Rather than work with Turek, OtĂk decides to accept an offer of employment in Prague, but finds he does not fit in to the city life. After discovering that the transfer of OtĂk to Prague was a trick by a crooked politician to get a deal on OtĂk's large inherited house, Pávek agrees to give OtĂk a second chance and retrieves him from the city to resume their work together.
