Alors qu'il fouille dans son coffre à la recherche des alliances qui vont accompagner sa demande en mariage, un jeune Chinois voit sa fiancée disparaître dans le fleuve après qu'une vache tombée du ciel s'est écrasée sur sa goélette. A Buenos Aires, Roberto De Cesare, un quincaillier bougon recompte les clous dans une boîte, ne trouve pas les 350 clous promis et appelle en rage son fournisseur. La visite de Mari, la belle soeur de son copain Leonel, qui n'a d'yeux que pour lui, le pousse à se retrancher dans sa solitude maniaque. Un jour qu'il pique-nique au bord de l'aéroport, il voit un Chinois être brutalement expulsé d'une voiture. A contre-coeur, il l'héberge...

Alors qu'ils sont en vacances dans le Sud-Ouest, Rae découvre que son homme Michael a dépensé l'argent de leur maison pour une voiture classique, alors elle l'abandonne, faisant du stop à Las Vegas pour un vol de retour. Un enfant vole rapidement la voiture de Michael, le laissant au Zip & Sip, un dépanneur. Trois voleurs maladroits mettent rapidement en place une retenue. Deux décollent avec l'argent échouant le troisième, avec une caisse mystérieuse, juste au moment où les flics arrivent. Le voleur prend le magasin en otage. Alors que des flics incompétents font appel à une équipe SWAT et tentent un sauvetage à la sauvette, Michael doit garder le voleur calme, découvrir ce qu'il y a dans la caisse, aider les négociations et revenir à Rae. Le syndrome de Stockholm affirme son effet.

La seule chose qui empêche Veronica d'intégrer l'université de Yale est son classement dans sa classe de lycée ; elle est deuxième. Quand elle élabore un plan pour faire élire son camarade Bernard au conseil scolaire local pour abolir le système de classement, leurs efforts peu orthodoxes inspirent tout le monde autour d'eux à voir la vie et l'amour sous un jour entièrement nouveau.

Keane, un écrivain en difficulté se lie d'amitié avec le tueur en série « à la retraite ». Petit à petit, ce dernier devient le conseiller improbable de Keane alors qu'il est en pleine procédure de divorce avec sa femme.

In the Dominican Republic, Genaro works in a small family store and lives with his mother in a poor neighborhood. He is learning a few words in English and dreams of being a Sanky Panky to marry an American tourist to move to the USA with a VISA and have a better life. He calls his friend Giuseppe, who is a hotel manager in Bávaro, and applies for a job entertaining children but hoping to find a wealthy tourist. Genaro meets the beautiful Martha, who has come with her aunts Dorothy and Helen, to forget her fiancée after calling off her wedding. Genaro calls his best friends, Chelo and Carlitos, to go out with the aunts and experience it alone with Martha. Martha only speaks English and Genaro only knows a few words of English, but everything goes as planned until Martha's boyfriend arrives at the resort and complicates everything.
