The 1988 UEFA European Football Championship final tournament was held in West Germany between 10 and 25 June 1988. It was the eighth European Football Championship, which is held every four years and supported by UEFA. The tournament crowned the Netherlands as European champions for the first, and so far only time. Euro 88 was a rare incidence of a major football tournament ending without a single sending-off or goalless draw, nor any knockout matches going to extra time or penalties.

The best from the 1992 European Football Championship, which was played in Sweden. The Swedish national team was successful on home soil and reached the semi-finals. Denmark, who entered the tournament late at the expense of the then Yugoslavia, became sensational European champions.

The 1996 European Men's Football Championship was organised by UEFA and was played in England between 8 and 30 June 1996. 16 of 48 European teams participated in the tournament, in contrast to 8 teams during the 1992 European Championship. The championship was won by Germany through a golden goal in the final against the Czech Republic, who made their first European Championship since the breakup of Czechoslovakia.

The best from the 2000 European Football Championship, which was played in Belgium and Holland. Sweden had an unsuccessful tournament and did not advance from the group stage. France eventually emerged as European champions after a dramatic final against Italy.

Lars Lagerbäck's last major championship as Swedish national team captain. Henrik Larsson made an unexpected comeback and Sweden started by beating Greece 2-0 after goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Petter Hansson. After two straight losses, Sweden was still eliminated in the group stage.

The 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 2012, was the 14th European Championship for men's national football teams organised by UEFA. The final tournament, between 8 June and 1 July 2012, was hosted for the first time by Poland and Ukraine, and was won by Spain, who beat Italy 4–0 in the final at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev, Ukraine.
