Un jeune garçon essaye de réunir sa mère et son grand-frère dont il est séparé, dix ans après la mort de leur père, une légende du catch. Bon étudiant mais sans réel talent athlétique, l'adolescent décide d'intégrer l'équipe de catch de son lycée dans l'espoir de réunir sa famille.

Un lycéen prodige du judo fait son entrée dans une cage du MMA pour affronter son rival ultime dans un combat pour la reconnaissance. Ce dernier n'est autre que son propre père.

États-Unis, années 1930. Mildred Burke travaille comme serveuse et élève seule son enfant. Inspirée par les modèles que représentent Eleanor Roosevelt et Amelia Earhart, elle rêve, elle aussi, de marquer l'histoire. Obnubilé par d’obscurs besoins, du Pont entend bien profiter de son soutien à Schultz et de son opportunité de « coacher » des lutteurs de réputation mondiale pour obtenir – enfin – le respect de ses pairs et, surtout, de sa mère qui le juge très durement.
