Bread, 'North' and Cobalt
Synopsis
The military blockade of Leningrad by German, Finnish and Spanish troops with the participation of volunteers from North Africa, France, Italy, Poland and other countries lasted from September 8, 1941 to January 27, 1944 — 872 days. The war is moving further away from us. It is incomprehensible to us, living now, how it was possible to survive in those conditions? And not just survive, but act, work, invent, create? The answer is always the same – Faith, Hope, Love... with them, a person reaches the limits of his abilities. We are alive thanks to them. Those who died – by their martyrdom. Those who survived – by their feat.

Emad buys his first camera in 2005 to document the birth of his fourth son, Gibreel. When Allied forces liberated the Nazi concentration camps in 1944-45, their terrible discoveries were recorded by army and newsreel cameramen, revealing for the first time the full horror of what had happened. Making use of British, Soviet and American footage, the Ministry of Information’s Sidney Bernstein (later founder of Granada Television) aimed to create a documentary that would provide lasting, undeniable evidence of the Nazis’ unspeakable crimes. He commissioned a wealth of British talent, including editor Stewart McAllister, writer and future cabinet minister Richard Crossman – and, as treatment advisor, his friend Alfred Hitchcock. Yet, despite initial support from the British and US Governments, the film was shelved, and only now, 70 years on, has it been restored and completed by Imperial War Museums under its original title "German Concentration Camps Factual Survey".
